Alison thrives on using her experience and knowledge to serve her clients. Her formal bio includes almost 30 years of public accounting experience as well as owning her own childcare center. Her prior experience includes working at a Big Six public accounting firm, then several northern New Jersey public accounting firms from 1996 to 2015. She opened CoganWorks in 2005, joined MRA Advisory Group in 2015 and became the owner of MRA Tax Services in 2019. She is a member of the NJCPA and AICPA and received her B.S. in Accounting in 1994 from Seton Hall University. She earned her AICPA Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation in January 2022. Outside of her employment, Alison is the President of the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education, the Treasurer of the Parsippany United Methodist Church and Parsippany Education Foundation, and is an active volunteer with The Seeing Eye. She lives in Parsippany, NJ with her husband and their five children are young adults starting out on their own!
Gene has over 40 years’ experience starting, managing, growing his own small businesses as well as consulting in a variety of industries: music retail, entertainment, healthcare, hedge fund alternative investments and more. He met Alison 5 years ago while helping his CPA sell his practice. There was an immediate synergy and since that time he has become a professional tax preparation accountant and small business consultant. He raised his family in Morristown, NJ and three years ago moved to Richmond, VA. He and his wife Barbara have three children and 7 grandchildren. He enjoys: Frequent visits to Disney World, Indiana University Basketball, staying at their 100-year-old cottage in the White Mountains of NH, his Boston Terrier Han’s and spending time with his grandchildren!!! Interesting fact: Alison and Gene have both been President of their Board of Educations in New Jersey!
David joined in 2022 and is the newest addition to the team. Having many years of background experience as a server he very much enjoys bringing the same level of dedication and customer service to his new clients. While doing so, David studied accounting at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and learned the fundamentals of accounting. Working under the guidance and wisdom of Alison and Gene has been even more instrumental in understanding all the intricacies of tax accounting. During school David served as treasurer of Phi Sigma Kappa executive board, president of the Table Tennis Club, and member of Phi Theta Kappa educational honor society. In his free time, you will find him either hiking in the backcountry, coaching his Table Tennis team, or participating with his Ultimate Frisbee Club. Interesting fact: David has hiked all 37 high peaks of the Catskill Mountains and is working on doing the same in the Adirondacks!
